The spark of freedom was spreading like the forest fire, lakhs of freedom fighters were martyred and thousands of families were in destitute. At such time philanthropists, industrialists, businessmen, politicians, benefactors and well-wishers of society from all over the country who were born to do heroic deeds came forward to meet in the second session of General Assembly of All India Marwadi Agrawal Hindu Mahasabha held at Madhobaug, Mumbai. The meeting was addressed by the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi and was presided by Shri Ramlal Ganeriwala of Hyderabad. The meeting resulted into the establishment of Akhil Bharat Varshiya Marwadi Agrawal Jatiya kosh in 1919 in the presence ofprominent personalities like Seth Ram Narayan Ruia, Seth Balkrishna Poddar, Seth Jamanalal Bajaj, Seth Beniprasad Dalmia, Shri Jai Narayan Poddar, Shri Motilal Prahladka, Shri Prabhudayal Himmat Singhka, Shri Jagannath Khemka, Shri Shriram Jhunjhunwala, Shri Shriniwas Bajaj, Shri Keshavdeo Nevatia, ShriShivnarayanNemani, ShriAnandilal Poddar, Shri Rudhamal Chudiwala etc.
After the decline of the Mughal Empire, the British took over the ruling of India. Indians had to bear all types of injustice. Life was miserable; all types of social evils like superstition, sati pratha, child marriage etc. were growing. The main objective of establishing theAkhil Bharat Varshiya Marwadi Agrawal Jatiya Kosh was to provideall types of financial and medicalaid to the freedom fighters and their families.Another aim was to provide education to the new generation.
In 1919 when the Kosh was being formed a treasure fund was also setup from the donations that could be used for overall social upliftment. A total of more than Rupees 6 lakh was donated by generous donors and some of them are listed below.

In 1923, the trust was registered under the Societies’ Registration Act, 1860.
Rajputana Shiksha Mandal, an educational organization completely funded by A.B.V.M. Agrawal Jatiya Kosh was formed. It established several Gurukuls, Schools and Colleges all over Rajasthan.
Financial and Medical help were being given to widows, freedom fighters and other needy people in the society. For this purpose, a few sub-committees like Education Help Committee, Medical and other help Committee and Secret Donation Committee were formed. The help in particular started from Rajasthan and extended to the whole of India.

In 1932, the Kosh, with a view to providing cheap accommodation, leased a plot at Dadar-Matunga and constructed 136 tenements in 6 buildings. This society is known as Agrawal Nagar and is rented out to the needy.
All charitable and social activities were going on smoothly. all educational activities, financial help to widows, war refuges etc. were in progress upto 1950-51.
Thereafter the Kosh started giving only financial help to the needy and the deserving.
In 1972, the Kosh with an aim to providing cheap housing facility to the needy and weaker section of the society purchased another plot of land at Malad-East. In 1986, the Kosh once again moved in the direction of development in educational field.
In 2003, the Kosh started Seth Juggilal Poddar Academy (ICSE); in 2009 Shri Tejpal Poddar Auditorium; in 2011 Ghanshyamdas Jalan Junior College of Science & Commerce and in 2013 Ghanshyamdas Jalan Women Degree College of Science, Commerce & Arts. The Kosh continues to contribute in different fields with its financial & moral support.
